Customs clearance is available on-site at SOT, a non-trivial asset at this latitude — most comparable Arctic airfields in northern Finland require advance coordination or diversion to Rovaniemi for border formalities. H24 operational status is declared, though dispatchers should confirm tower hours seasonally; Arctic aerodromes frequently operate under reduced staffing outside peak windows. Handling includes general aviation services with FBO-level coordination available on request. Confirm catering lead times in advance — supply chains into Sodankylä are not on-demand, and provisioning requires notice of 24–48 hours minimum.

The nearest major hub is Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL), approximately 900 km south, which handles widebody positioning and international connections. For Lapland-wide itineraries combining multiple sites, Oslo (OSL) to the west offers transatlantic connections if Nordic multi-leg routing is required. SOT's position also makes it a viable tech stop on non-standard north Atlantic or polar routings, though this use case requires prior coordination with Finnish ATC.
