Ibiza Airport is not a year-round leisure field — it is a peak-season pressure cooker. Between late May and early October, IBZ processes one of the highest concentrations of private jet movements in the western Mediterranean, with traffic originating from London Luton, Nice, Paris Le Bourget, and direct positioning from the Gulf. Outside the season, the airfield reverts to a quiet southern European field with reliable access and minimal slot pressure.
The single paved runway 06/24 stretches 2,800 metres (approximately 9,186 ft) at a field elevation of just 23 ft AMSL. Density altitude is operationally irrelevant. The length comfortably accommodates ultra-long-range heavy jets — Global 7500, Gulfstream G650, Falcon 8X — without payload restriction under standard conditions, relevant for direct routing from the US East Coast or the Gulf. Declared distances and PCN value confirm full compatibility with MTOW operations for common bizav types. Noise abatement procedures are in force at IBZ, and curfew restrictions apply between 23:00 and 07:00 local time — any operation near those windows requires advance coordination. Slots are not required outside peak season, but between July and August, PPR and slot requests must be filed well in advance; last-minute positioning in August is operationally risky and should be confirmed with the handler before committing a crew.
The airfield sits approximately 7 km southwest of Ibiza Town (Eivissa), with transfer times of 10 to 15 minutes by road under normal conditions. During peak July–August traffic, the coastal road to the port and old town can extend that to 25–30 minutes in the evening. The north of the island — Sant Joan, Portinatx, and the cluster of private villas around Cala Salada and Cala Conta — is 30 to 45 minutes by road. Helicopter transfers to the north are available seasonally through local operators, bypassing road congestion entirely. Formentera access requires a ferry from Ibiza port, typically 35 to 45 minutes; some clients coordinate seaplane or helicopter transfers for a faster crossing. There is no rail connection. For clients splitting time between Ibiza and the mainland, Palma de Mallorca is 45 nautical miles east and handles overflow when IBZ is saturated.
Ibiza Airport has a dedicated FBO and general aviation handling infrastructure, with on-site customs clearance available. Jet Aviation operates at IBZ as the primary private aviation handler, offering VIP lounge access, direct ramp access, crew facilities, catering coordination, and ground transport arrangement. Customs are available on-site, which is operationally significant for non-Schengen arrivals — principally UK-registered aircraft post-Brexit and Gulf-origin charters. H24 operations are declared, but any arrival outside standard AENA tower hours should be pre-confirmed with the handler, particularly in the shoulder season (November–April) when staffing contracts. Spain is part of the Schengen Area, so EU-passport holders arriving from other Schengen states clear without border formalities; non-EU nationals and UK passport holders require full customs and immigration processing regardless of season. Fuelling, ground power, and hangarage are available on request, though hangar space is extremely limited in peak season — early reservation is advised for stays exceeding 48 hours.
