Tenerife South (TFS) operates without seasonal closure — a distinction that separates it from most Southern European leisure airports. While Ibiza and Palma de Mallorca compress their peak traffic into four summer months, TFS sustains consistent private jet movements year-round, driven by a 22°C average winter temperature that attracts UHNWI clients from Northern Europe between November and March. The airport sits at 209 ft AMSL on the island's southern tip, approximately 17 km from Costa Adeje and 65 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Access & Logistics

Transfer times from block-in to resort door run 20–30 minutes to Costa Adeje and Las Américas via the TF-1 motorway, and approximately 55–65 minutes to Puerto de la Cruz in the north. Santa Cruz city centre is a 50-minute drive under normal conditions. No rail connection serves TFS; ground transport defaults to charter vehicle, private transfer, or helicopter — the latter covering Los Gigantes or Teide area lodges in under 15 minutes. A second airport, Tenerife North (TFN/GCXO), serves the capital and northern zone; routing decisions between the two should factor in destination resort location rather than aircraft capability.

Airfield Capabilities

The primary runway at TFS measures 3,200 metres, accommodating heavy-cabin and ultra-long-range types including the Gulfstream G650 and Global 7500 without payload restriction under standard Atlantic ISA conditions. Elevation at 209 ft contributes negligible density altitude penalty. The airport holds IFR certification and supports CAT I ILS operations. No noise curfew currently restricts operations; H24 movements are available without prior slot coordination in most traffic conditions, though peak summer weekends can generate ground delays — confirm block times with handling in advance during July and August.

Executive Handling

Dedicated general aviation handling at TFS is provided through established operators on the south apron, with VIP lounge access, crew facilities, and catering coordination available on request. Customs and immigration are available on-site with H24 coverage, permitting arrivals from non-Schengen origins — relevant for direct positioning from the UK, Gulf states, or the Americas — without pre-arrangement beyond standard advance notification. The Canary Islands' special customs zone status means VAT-exempt fuel and goods apply, a material consideration for extended stays or high-volume catering orders. Spain maintains the Canary Islands as an EU territory outside the EU customs union, so customs formalities apply on arrival from mainland Madrid as well as from third countries. For onward island routing, inter-island general aviation connections exist but require individual handling confirmation at each field. For European hub connections, Barcelona and Lisbon serve as the closest major positioning hubs for crew rotation or aircraft ferry legs.
