Alicante–Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is the busiest private aviation entry point on Spain's southeastern coast, handling year-round leisure, superyacht-support, and corporate traffic between the Costa Blanca, the Balearics, and Continental Europe. Unlike many Mediterranean seasonal fields, ALC maintains full H24 customs clearance and dedicated general aviation facilities across all twelve months, making it the preferred alternative to Palma de Mallorca for clients whose itineraries combine mainland Spain with Ibiza or Formentera.

Runway & Performance

ALC operates a single paved runway (10/28) stretching 2,800 metres — sufficient for heavy-cabin aircraft including the Bombardier Global 6000 and Gulfstream G550 without payload restriction under typical ISA conditions at this field elevation of 142 ft. The runway orientation aligns with prevailing westerly and easterly sea-breeze flows, and instrument approach procedures (ILS/RNAV) are in place on both ends. Density altitude is a non-issue at this elevation. Runway 10 arrivals place aircraft within a short backtrack to the general aviation apron, minimising block-in time from touchdown to chocks.

Ground Handling

The general aviation terminal at ALC is operated by Groundforce, which provides ramp handling, fuelling, and crew coordination. Swissport also operates a handling contract at the field for select operator agreements. On-site customs and immigration are available H24, allowing direct ramp-to-vehicle transfers without passengers entering the commercial terminal. GPU, ground air conditioning, and catering coordination are available on request. Advance notification to handling agents is recommended during peak summer months — July and August see significant compression of the GA apron due to concurrent commercial and charter activity, and parking slots may require pre-coordination for large-cabin aircraft overnight stays.

Regional Access

The airport sits 9 km southwest of Alicante city centre via the AP-7 and N-332, with transfer times of approximately 15 minutes in off-peak traffic and up to 30 minutes during August coastal congestion. Benidorm is 45 km north along the AP-7; Murcia city is approximately 75 km south. The port of Alicante, a primary superyacht berth during the Volvo Ocean Race stopover and the spring–autumn cruising season, is under 20 minutes by road. For clients targeting the northern Costa Blanca or Valencia, Barcelona or Madrid may offer more direct positioning, but ALC provides the closest jet access to the Altea–Dénia–Jávea triangle without a secondary transfer. Spain operates several GA-capable airports along this coastline; ALC is the only one with confirmed H24 customs and a runway exceeding 2,500 metres south of Valencia.
