Cuatro Vientos is not an alternative to Madrid Barajas — it operates in an entirely different category. Opened in 1911, it is Spain's oldest continuously operating airfield and functions exclusively as a general aviation and flight training hub on Madrid's southwestern fringe. There is no scheduled commercial traffic, no airline ground handling infrastructure, and no jet bridges. What it offers instead is uncongested ramp access, proximity to Madrid's residential and light-industrial southwest corridor, and a base for piston, turboprop, and light jet operations that do not require Barajas' slot coordination overhead.

The primary paved runway (10/28) measures roughly 1,250 metres — a figure substantially shorter than the 2,200m listed in some databases, which appear to conflate LECU with nearby Barajas infrastructure. At 1,250m, operations are restricted to VLJ and light piston-turboprop aircraft: Phenom 100, TBM series, Pilatus PC-12, and similarly performant types under standard ISA conditions. Midsize and super-midsize jets cannot be accommodated. Density altitude at this elevation on hot summer days (Madrid regularly exceeds 38°C in July–August) is a relevant planning factor for maximum-weight departures on turboprops; confirm performance calculations with your operator before scheduling.

The airfield sits approximately 10 km southwest of Madrid's Puerta del Hierro and Moncloa districts, with road access via the A-5 (Autovía del Suroeste) and the M-40 ring road. For destinations in the Pozuelo de Alarcón or Boadilla del Monte residential zones, Cuatro Vientos offers materially shorter ground transit than Barajas.
