The airfield is the primary private aviation gateway for the western Schleswig-Holstein coast, serving Büsum's thalasso and spa infrastructure, the agricultural flatlands of Dithmarschen, and positioning traffic transiting between Germany and Denmark. Elevation sits at 7 ft above sea level — density altitude is irrelevant at any aircraft weight. The surrounding terrain is entirely flat, with no obstacle concerns on approach or departure.

EDXB operates a single paved runway of approximately 1,200 metres — significantly shorter than the 720 m listed in some databases. Web-sourced aeronautical data places the operational runway at 1,199 m (runway 10/28), which restricts the field to light piston and turboprop traffic and select very light jets such as the Cessna Citation Mustang and Phenom 100 under favourable conditions. Heavier light jets including the Phenom 300 or Citation CJ3+ should be assessed on a charter-by-charter basis with confirmed weight and fuel load. Midsize and large cabin jets are not operationally compatible. Operators positioning from the Hamburg area should note that Hamburg Airport or nearby Lübeck serve as practical alternates for heavier platforms. Transfers & Connections

Büsum town centre is reachable in approximately 15 minutes by road from the airfield. Heide, the regional administrative centre, lies roughly 12 km to the northeast via the B5 federal highway. For clients bound for the North Frisian Islands — Sylt, Föhr, Amrum — ferry connections operate from Husum (approximately 60 km north) or Dagebüll. Flensburg near the Danish border is approximately 100 km north on the E45. There is no direct motorway (Autobahn) access to the airfield; ground transfers are via secondary B-roads. Car rental and chauffeured transfers can be arranged through the handling agent but should be confirmed well in advance for same-day delivery.

Handling & Customs

General aviation handling at EDXB is provided on a limited-service basis. Independent FBO infrastructure comparable to that found at Hamburg or Düsseldorf is not present at this field. Customs availability is reported as on-site for international arrivals, though given the field's size and traffic profile, prior coordination with German customs authorities (Zollamt) is strongly recommended for any non-Schengen operation — walk-up customs clearance cannot be assumed. H24 operations are formally noted, but after-hours arrivals should be confirmed directly with EDXB operations. Fuel availability (AvGas and Jet-A1) is available but should be verified for quantity and notice requirements before dispatch.
