Customs and border control are present on site, enabling international arrivals without pre-positioning to Bratislava or Budapest for clearance — a practical advantage for direct routing from outside the Schengen zone. H24 operations are listed as active, but given the military-civil status, confirming operating hours directly with handlers before scheduling late-night or early-morning block-in times is strongly advised.

Regional Access

Banská Bystrica city centre is reachable in approximately 15 minutes by road via Route 66. The Low Tatras ski and spa region — including Jasná, Slovakia's largest ski resort — is accessible in under an hour. Corporate clients visiting industrial operators in the Hron Valley manufacturing corridor (automotive supply chain, defence contractors) use SLD to avoid the road transfer penalty from western Slovak airports. For onward connections requiring larger-cabin or ultra-long-range aircraft, Prague and Austria offer wider fleet access and more predictable slot availability.
