TKPK / SKB
Basseterre is the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis, a two-island federation at the northern end of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. With a combined population of approximately 53,000 and an economy increasingly shaped by its Citizenship by Investment programme — one of the oldest and most established in the Caribbean — Saint Kitts and Nevis occupies a position in the private aviation world that punches above its modest size. The federation hosts two of the most celebrated resort properties in the Caribbean: the Park Hyatt St Kitts at Christophe Harbour and the Four Seasons Resort Nevis on Pinney Beach, both drawing a clientele for whom private aviation is the standard mode of arrival.
Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport (SKB/TKPK) on Saint Kitts serves as the main international gateway for the federation. The airport has a runway of 2,190 metres, which accommodates midsize jets including the Hawker 850XP, Citation Sovereign, and Cessna Citation X, as well as light jets and turboprops. Heavy jets with full fuel loads are not practical at this runway length, though positioning for shorter sectors from Antigua, Puerto Rico, or Saint Maarten is straightforward with reduced payload. The neighbouring island of Nevis is served by Vance W. Amory International Airport (NEV/TKPN), operating with a runway of 1,219 metres and appropriate for turboprops and small aircraft only.
The standard private aviation routing to Basseterre involves a midsize or large-cabin jet arriving at SKB, with clients heading to Four Seasons Nevis transferring by the 10-minute government ferry between Basseterre harbour and Charlestown on Nevis. Private boat charters are available for clients who prefer direct water transfer, and helicopter service between the islands is also available from specialist operators.
For clients arriving from Europe, the typical routing involves a transatlantic flight to Antigua (ANU), which has a longer runway and more established handling infrastructure, followed by a shorter regional hop to SKB by turboprop or light jet. From the Gulf, connections typically route through Barbados (BGI) or Antigua. From the United States, Miami to SKB is approximately 3.5 hours in a light jet.
Saint Kitts and Nevis attracts private aviation clients principally during the December-to-April dry season. The Christophe Harbour development on South Friars Bay, which anchors the Park Hyatt resort, has also attracted a growing community of villa and real estate owners who maintain regular private aviation access throughout the year. Multi-destination Eastern Caribbean itineraries combining Saint Kitts with Anguilla, Saint Barths, and Antigua are a regular request from clients exploring the Leeward Islands by private jet.
