Castries is the capital of Saint Lucia, a volcanic island in the Eastern Caribbean with a population of approximately 22,000 in the city itself and around 180,000 across the island. For private aviation clients, Saint Lucia presents a distinctive dual-airport structure that directly shapes charter planning: two airports, positioned at opposite ends of the island, serve different aircraft categories and access different resort zones.
George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU/TLPC), located immediately adjacent to Castries in the north, operates with a runway of approximately 1,829 metres and accommodates turboprops, light jets, and small aircraft. Its proximity to the capital and northern resort areas including Rodney Bay makes it the preferred arrival point for clients staying in the north. Hewanorra International Airport (UVF/TLPL), located near Vieux Fort in the south of the island, offers a full 2,903-metre runway capable of accommodating midsize and heavy jets, and is the standard gateway for transatlantic and trans-Caribbean private aviation. The distance between the two airports is approximately 70 kilometres by road — given Saint Lucia's mountain terrain, a two-hour transfer by car. For clients arriving at UVF and heading to northern resorts including Jade Mountain or Sugar Beach, helicopter transfer from Hewanorra to a landing zone near the resort is the standard premium solution, reducing the transfer to approximately 15 minutes.
Saint Lucia attracts a diverse mix of private aviation clients: honeymooners and leisure travellers drawn by the UNESCO-listed Piton mountains and five-star resorts; incentive travel groups rewarding high performers with Caribbean experiences; and an increasingly active real estate and wealth management segment connected to the island's Citizenship by Investment programme. The dry season from December to May drives the highest private aviation demand, with peak bookings concentrated around Christmas, New Year, and February half-term.
For departures from Europe, the typical routing involves a heavy jet to UVF with direct service from London, Paris, Geneva, or Madrid, frequently timed for an early-afternoon arrival to allow sunset transfers by helicopter to northern resorts. For Gulf clients, Saint Maarten or Barbados serve as convenient intermediate stops.
Flyius coordinates charter programmes for Saint Lucia across the full range of departures and aircraft categories, with FBO handling at both SLU and UVF and helicopter transfer options included in the itinerary planning.
