Poprad sits at 672 metres above sea level in the Poprad Basin, flanked by the High Tatras to the north and the Slovak Ore Mountains to the south. The city of roughly 55,000 functions as the primary logistics hub for the entire Tatras region, hosting light manufacturing, cross-border trade with Poland, and a significant hospitality sector tied to year-round alpine tourism. Corporate traffic peaks during ski season (December–March) and again in summer for high-altitude hiking and cycling events. Ground transfer from ramp to the resort hotels of Štrbské Pleso or Tatranská Lomnica runs 25–40 minutes by road. The town of Poprad itself, with its medieval Spišská Sobota district and emerging boutique hotel scene, lies 10 minutes from the airport apron. For onward connections beyond the Tatras, Prague and Vienna are the nearest major hub airports for intercontinental repositioning.
