Porto Cervo is a curated enclave with fewer than 500 permanent residents that hosts one of the world's highest concentrations of superyachts, private jets, and UHNWI per square kilometre during its July-August season. The operational gateway — Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB/LIEO) — sits 30 km to the south, and navigating the peak-season demand pressure at that airport is the core planning challenge for any Costa Smeralda mission.
OLB handles both commercial and general aviation at an elevation of 10 metres AMSL. The single runway 05/23 measures 2,440 metres — fully capable of accommodating midsize jets, super-midsize platforms, and large-cabin aircraft including the Global 6000 and Falcon 7X without payload restriction. Sardinia FBO and additional local handlers provide ramp access, fuelling, customs coordination, and crew facilities. The airport is fully customs-equipped for international arrivals, with Schengen processing expedited through the GA terminal. The defining operational constraint is summer saturation: during July and August — and particularly around the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup (late August) and Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta (June) — the apron operates at near-maximum capacity. PPR is strongly recommended during the season, and overnight parking without advance arrangements is not guaranteed.
The Aga Khan's 1960s vision for the Costa Smeralda as a private Mediterranean sanctuary has never been diluted. The current client base includes UHNWI families on summer villa and superyacht programmes, fashion and luxury brand executives attending brand events, Middle Eastern family offices managing Italian real estate positions, and superyacht principals coordinating vessel arrivals. The marina at Porto Cervo accommodates yachts regularly exceeding 80 metres, and coordinating private jet arrivals with tender pickups and yacht schedule adjustments is a standard element of itinerary management for this destination.
Road transfer from OLB to Porto Cervo covers approximately 30 km via the SS125 coastal road: 30-45 minutes in normal conditions, extending to 60-75 minutes in August peak. For time-critical arrivals — particularly during regatta weeks when schedule coordination with superyacht departures is paramount — helicopter transfer from OLB or the adjacent Olbia helipad to the Porto Cervo marina cuts transfer time to under 15 minutes. Helicopter slots during Rolex Cup and Loro Piana weeks require advance booking; capacity is structurally constrained during these periods. From October through May, Porto Cervo is largely dormant and handling response times at OLB lengthen considerably. For autumn and spring access, Cagliari (CAG) in southern Sardinia offers a more consistent year-round operational environment.
Inbound flights to Porto Cervo land at the dedicated private aviation terminal or an adjacent field closer to downtown — your concierge picks the optimal arrival based on customs hours, ground-transfer time and the runway length your jet category needs. Most Porto Cervo arrivals can be confirmed 24–48 hours ahead; during high-demand weeks (sports finals, fashion weeks, ski breaks, summer peaks) inbound slots fill 5–7 days out. The arrival terminal typically offers VIP lounges, dedicated customs and immigration channels, conference rooms, premium catering and pre-arranged luxury ground transport. Helicopter transfers from the airport to nearby resorts, downtown helipads or onward destinations can be added to any inbound charter.
Explore typical private jet connections from Porto Cervo, including estimated flight times, suitable aircraft categories and starting prices. Exact availability depends on aircraft positioning, airport slots and operational constraints.
