Positano is Europe's most logistically demanding luxury destination — and that difficulty defines its appeal. A vertical village of roughly 3,800 permanent residents stacked on the limestone cliffs of the UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast, it has no airport, no publicly accessible helipad, and a single coastal road that gridlocks from June through August. What it offers in return is near-total seclusion, some of Italy's most architecturally dramatic accommodation, and access to a coastal circuit — Capri, Ravello, Amalfi town, Praiano — that concentrates Europe's highest density of ultra-luxury hotel infrastructure in a 30-kilometre radius.
The operative private aviation gateway is Naples International Airport (NAP/LIRN), 55 km northwest via the A3 motorway and the SS163 Amalfitana. The general aviation apron at NAP handles departures and arrivals through a dedicated south-side terminal with 24/7 customs and immigration. Runway 24/06 at 2,628 metres accommodates mid-size and super-midsize aircraft without restriction; large-cabin types require payload planning under peak summer ISA conditions. GA stand availability tightens sharply in July and August — PPR for overnight parking should be filed a minimum of 48 hours in advance. Salerno Costa d'Amalfi Airport (QSR/LIRI), 30 km east of Positano, handles turboprop and light-jet positioning flights when NAP stands are under pressure.
The critical transfer link between the Naples ramp and Positano village is the helicopter: 18 to 22 minutes versus 90 to 120 minutes by road in peak season. For arrivals and departures in high summer, helicopter positioning is not an upgrade — it is the operationally rational choice.
Demand peaks are defined by the Amalfi wedding season (May–October), the Ravello Festival (July–August), and a consistent flow of celebrity and UHNWI itineraries generating multi-leg charters from Paris Le Bourget, Geneva, Farnborough, and Gulf hubs. September represents the operationally superior window — reduced congestion, full hotel availability, an active Positano Fashion Week, and the beginning of the Ravello shoulder season. Capri lies 45 minutes by helicopter and is routinely combined with a Positano stay as part of extended southern Italy itineraries.
Explore typical private jet connections from Positano, including estimated flight times, suitable aircraft categories and starting prices. Exact availability depends on aircraft positioning, airport slots and operational constraints.
