The hub

Svalbard, a private aviation
gateway for business travel

Svalbard Airport, Longyearbyen (LYR/ENSB) is the principal fixed-wing gateway to the Norwegian High Arctic. The current Avinor AIP publishes a 2,477 m × 45 m physical runway, with shorter declared TORA/LDA values by direction. All traffic to, from or within Svalbard is subject to prior permission, and non-scheduled traffic must submit an application to the Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority at least 48 hours before landing. Airport, customs, handling and fuel hours are published through Avinor/AIS and can change, so Flyius does not describe ENSB as unrestricted H24.

Flying private to Svalbard

Svalbard is a genuinely distinct aviation mission. Isolation, Arctic weather, limited local support and prior-permission requirements matter more than luxury copy. Avinor publishes a 2,477 m physical runway at ENSB, but the declared take-off and landing distances are shorter and differ by direction. Jet A-1 is available by prior arrangement, and visiting-aircraft hangar/repair capability is limited. Flyius therefore validates the actual tail, payload, weather, fuel order, handling, airport hours, prior permission and alternate strategy—typically with Tromsø or mainland Norway in mind—before presenting the charter as bookable.

Charter briefing for Svalbard

Use Longyearbyen Airport (LYR) as the starting point, then confirm whether that field fits the exact address and schedule. An airport code identifies the intended gateway; it does not confirm aircraft availability, parking, slots, PPR, customs or handling. The operating carrier must validate runway performance for the actual aircraft, payload, temperature, wind and runway condition.

For comparable proposals, provide every sector, local dates and time windows, passenger count, baggage dimensions, pets, catering and ground-transfer requirements. Ask each proposal to identify the operating carrier and aircraft type, show what the total price includes, list possible extras, state cancellation or change terms and record the airport assumptions. Any online estimate is a planning benchmark only; the written operator confirmation governs the flight.

Data & methodology

Prices.
Indicative price ranges are planning estimates, not confirmed aircraft offers. Positioning, dates, availability and services affect the final quote.
Flight times.
Calculated from great-circle distance and average cruise speed per category, plus taxi and climb allowances. Actual times vary with winds and routing.
CO₂ estimates.
Modelled estimates depend on aircraft category, distance and the assumptions shown in the methodology. They are not measurements of fuel burned on your flight; SAF and offset availability require confirmation.
Airports & FBOs.
Airport and handling information is provided for trip planning. The operating crew and handling provider must confirm current AIP/NOTAM restrictions, opening hours and available services for the flight date.

FAQ

Everything you need about Svalbard

Pricing, airports, booking lead times, customs and ground transport — answered

Does a private flight to Svalbard require permission?

Yes. Avinor’s AIP states that all traffic to, from or within Svalbard is subject to prior permission; non-scheduled traffic must follow the published application procedure.

How long is the runway at Svalbard Longyearbyen?

The current Avinor AIP publishes a 2,477 m × 45 m physical runway, with direction-specific declared take-off and landing distances.

Is Svalbard Airport continuously available for any private jet?

Flyius does not treat it that way. Airport, handling, customs and fuel hours plus permissions and NOTAMs must be confirmed for each mission.
