East Hampton Town Airport for private aviation

East Hampton Town Airport is the closest fixed-wing airport to East Hampton, Sag Harbor, Bridgehampton and much of the eastern Hamptons. The current FAA identifier is JPX and the ICAO identifier is KJPX. Older travel material and historic databases may still refer to HTO/KHTO, the identifiers used before the airport transition in May 2022. Flyius keeps those former codes in the copy for search continuity, while operational planning follows the current JPX/KJPX record.

Runways and aircraft suitability

The principal runway 10/28 is 4,255 ft by 100 ft, approximately 1,297 m long. The crosswind runway 16/34 is substantially shorter and is used under more limited conditions. JPX is well suited to many turboprops, light jets and selected midsize or larger business jets when performance permits. The decisive factors are aircraft weight, temperature, wind, runway condition and operator limitations. A nominal aircraft category should never be interpreted as automatic approval for the mission.

PPR framework, operating windows and seasonal tower

East Hampton is not an unrestricted public-use airport. The Town’s current Rules and Regulations state that every operation is governed by its Prior Permission Required (PPR) framework. The published framework allows operations Monday–Thursday from 08:00 to 20:00 and Friday–Sunday plus U.S. federal holidays from 09:00 to 19:00; it also limits each Part 135 commercial or Part 91K fractional aircraft to one roundtrip per day, restricts aircraft at or above 50,000 lb MTOW, and imposes additional limits on aircraft classified as noisy. Separately, the Town’s flight-planning page publishes an all-aircraft nighttime curfew from 22:00 to 07:00. The seasonal tower generally operates around the summer peak. Because PPR rules can be amended or affected by legal and operational developments, the carrier must obtain current permission and verify the rules for the exact tail number and date before Flyius confirms the flight.

FBO and passenger handling

Sound Aircraft Services is the airport’s fixed-base operator, providing Jet A and Avgas fuel, ramp services, catering coordination and charter support. The airport and FBO are available through the year, with appointment arrangements on major holidays. Summer demand is concentrated from late spring through September, so aircraft parking, repositioning and ground transport should be confirmed early for peak weekends.

International flight planning

Flyius does not assume that a private international arrival can complete U.S. border processing at JPX without prior confirmation. For an itinerary originating abroad, the operating carrier must verify the current CBP arrangement and, where required, plan customs clearance at an approved port of entry before continuing to East Hampton. APIS and all applicable U.S. entry requirements remain the operator’s responsibility.
