Norðfjörður Airport (BINF) is a small gravel-strip field serving the fishing town of Norðfjörður in Iceland's Eastfjords region, one of the most geographically isolated areas in Western Europe. The airfield exists primarily to maintain connectivity for a community that road links — particularly in winter — can effectively cut off from Reykjavík for days at a time. Private jet operations here are rare and demand careful pre-planning: the strip is short, the approaches are fjord-constrained, and support infrastructure is minimal.

Norðfjörður is approximately 700 km by road from Reykjavík — a journey that takes 8–10 hours under good summer conditions, longer or impossible in winter. The nearest regional hub with consistent commercial links is Egilsstaðir Airport (EGS), roughly 70 km to the northwest, which handles turboprop scheduled services to Reykjavík Domestic and offers better ground infrastructure. For most executive charters, EGS or Reykjavík Domestic (RKV) are the practical terminus, with surface or helicopter transfer onward to Norðfjörður. Iceland as a whole has seen sustained growth in private aviation for expedition and wilderness itineraries, and the Eastfjords attract a niche segment of UHNWI clients for remote hiking, fishing, and bird-watching in the Dyrfjöll range. Helicopter positioning from EGS is the most operationally sound last-mile solution for those clients.

Handling & Customs

There is no dedicated FBO at Norðfjörður. Handling is provided on a basic, locally-arranged basis through the municipal authority managing the aerodrome. Customs clearance is not available on-site as a standard walk-up service; any international arrival would require advance coordination with Icelandic customs authorities, and in practice, international private jet arrivals to BINF are exceptionally uncommon. H24 operations are not confirmed — the field operates on a limited schedule tied to local demand and staffing. Operators should treat this field as PPR (Prior Permission Required) in all circumstances and confirm handling, surface condition, and any customs arrangements well ahead of departure.
