Operations are not H24 — the airfield operates during published daylight and early-evening hours, and out-of-hours arrivals are not available without prior special arrangement, which is rarely granted. Royan city centre is approximately 8 kilometres from the airfield, reachable in under 15 minutes by car via the D25. For clients requiring onward routing to Bordeaux and its surrounding wine châteaux, the drive south to Bordeaux-Mérignac takes approximately 90 minutes via the A10 motorway — operators with heavier aircraft or tighter scheduling windows may prefer positioning directly into Bordeaux. Cognac itself is roughly 40 kilometres northeast, making RYN a viable staging point for cognac house visits without the traffic pressure of larger commercial terminals. For transatlantic or long-haul continuation, Paris CDG is the nearest major hub with intercontinental connections, approximately 500 km north. Clients based in France's southwest should note that Royan is one of the few coastal fields in Nouvelle-Aquitaine with customs clearance on site, reducing the need to route through a commercial airport for international arrivals.

Handling & Customs

Customs clearance is available on site, which is operationally useful for light international arrivals from the UK or Iberian Peninsula — particularly post-2021 given Brexit documentation requirements. No dedicated FBO facility in the traditional sense operates at LFCY; handling is provided by the airfield's general aviation service, which covers fuelling, basic crew facilities, and ground transport coordination. Catering and VIP lounge services are limited and must be pre-arranged well in advance. Operators accustomed to full-service FBO environments at Paris Le Bourget or Nice Côte d'Azur should calibrate expectations accordingly — Royan-Médis is a functional coastal field, not an executive terminal.
