Tivat Airport occupies a narrow coastal strip between the Vrmac peninsula and the Bay of Kotor, positioning it as the closest airfield to Porto Montenegro — the 450-berth superyacht marina that has made Tivat one of the highest-density UHNWI destinations on the Adriatic. From June through September, the airport absorbs concentrated private charter traffic from London, Geneva, Paris, and Gulf hubs, with peak movements tightly linked to the superyacht season and the opening of Montenegro's coastal estates. Block-in to marina is under 10 minutes by road along the Jadranski put coastal route.

Access & Logistics

The transfer from TIV ramp to Porto Montenegro's central marina is approximately 3 km, typically 7–10 minutes by car. The old town of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sits 7 km from the airport, around 12 minutes via the D1 coastal road. Budva, the primary resort hub, is 35 km south — roughly 30 minutes under normal summer conditions, though coastal congestion on the Jadranska magistrala can extend transfers during peak July and August. Clients bound for Sveti Stefan or the Aman resort should plan 45–55 minutes ground time. Montenegro's only international road border with Croatia at Debeli Brijeg is approximately 30 km west; cross-border helicopter positioning is common for clients with itineraries spanning Dubrovnik and the Bay of Kotor simultaneously.

Airfield Capabilities

The paved runway at TIV measures approximately 2,500 metres, comfortably accommodating super-midsize and heavy cabin aircraft including the Challenger 350, Gulfstream G450, and Bombardier Global 5500 at full payload under standard ISA conditions. Field elevation at 20 ft above sea level renders density altitude a non-issue across all aircraft categories and all seasonal temperature ranges. Instrument approaches are available via ILS, supporting arrivals in the Adriatic sea-fog events that occasionally affect the bay in shoulder season. Slot coordination is advisable during the July–August peak period when movement density is at its highest and parking stand availability becomes a constraining factor.

Executive Handling

Tivat's general aviation handling is operated with a dedicated VIP terminal separated from the commercial terminal, offering private arrivals and departures with direct ramp access. Customs and border control are available on-site. The airport does not have a branded international FBO chain (Signature, Jet Aviation, or Jetex are not present at TIV), but dedicated general aviation handling with crew facilities, catering coordination, and ground transport arrangement is available through the handling operators on field. H24 operational status is confirmed, which is operationally relevant for repositioning flights arriving from Dubai (DXB) or from Paris Le Bourget at non-standard hours during the summer season. Customs clearance can be arranged on arrival without prior appointment during published operating hours; after-hours requests should be confirmed with the handling agent in advance. For clients also routing via the Croatian coast, Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) is 28 km to the northwest and serves as the alternate for aircraft with MTOW limitations at TIV or for sectors requiring stronger slot availability.
