VGHS / DAC
Dhaka is the political and commercial capital of Bangladesh, a metropolitan area of more than 22 million people that anchors a $460 billion economy built on ready-made garment exports, banking, and a fast-growing services sector. For private aviation, the city functions as the essential gateway for international buyers, compliance auditors and finance professionals whose itineraries in Gulshan, Banani and Motijheel run on tighter schedules than Bangladesh's commercial network can support.
All private traffic routes through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC/VGHS), 20 kilometres north of the city centre. Its single 3,200-metre runway (14/32) accommodates long-range business jets such as the Gulfstream G650ER and Bombardier Global 6500 without a mandatory tech stop to the Gulf, Singapore or Bangkok, though European capitals typically require a stop en route. General aviation is handled separately from the commercial terminals through accredited local agents — most visibly Biman Ground Handling — and advance coordination for customs, immigration and slots (48-72 hours) is standard practice given the airport's regulatory framework and single-runway constraints.
Ground transfer from DAC to the Gulshan business district covers 12-15 kilometres but should be budgeted generously: Dhaka's road network is among the most congested in Asia, and peak-hour transits can exceed 60 minutes despite the Dhaka Elevated Expressway easing routes toward Tejgaon and Gulshan since 2023. Traffic on Dhaka's private ramp tracks the country's fiscal and trade calendar, with sourcing season from September to November and spring-collection finalisation from February to April driving the heaviest executive movements, alongside the annual Dhaka International Trade Fair each January.
