Île d'Yeu sits 20 nautical miles off the Vendée coast, accessible by ferry in 70 minutes or by private jet in a fraction of that time. The island's airfield, LFEY, handles roughly 9,000 movements annually — the vast majority concentrated in the June–August summer season when the island's population swells from its permanent 4,900 residents to tens of thousands of seasonal visitors. Without private aviation, access is entirely dependent on ferry schedules from Fromentine or Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, making LFEY operationally critical for UHNWI clients and their family offices who cannot afford schedule dependency.

The island has no motor vehicles beyond utility and emergency services, which defines the appeal: no traffic, no noise beyond the Atlantic wind, and a density of luxury second residences disproportionate to the island's size. The rocky southern coast and fortified Vieux-Château attract high-net-worth French families, Parisian industrialists, and a quiet international contingent who prefer anonymity over recognition. Accommodation is limited and largely private — villa rentals dominate, with almost no branded hotel infrastructure, which makes early arrival planning essential during peak season.

From an operational standpoint, LFEY is a grass and hardstand strip suited to light aircraft, turboprops, and very light jets. Heavy or super-midsize jets position to Nantes Atlantique or La Rochelle before onward ferry or helicopter transfer. Customs are available by appointment for international arrivals — clients arriving from outside the Schengen zone should plan notification 24 hours in advance. Daylight operations are strongly preferred; night movements require prior arrangement with the local authority.
