Avignon-Caumont sits at the operational crossroads between the Rhône Valley's corporate hubs and the private estate circuit of the Luberon, Alpilles, and Ventoux. Peak demand concentrates in July during the Festival d'Avignon — Europe's largest performing arts event — when simultaneous arrivals from Paris, London, and Geneva create short-notice slot pressure. Outside festival season, the field absorbs steady owner-pilot and charter traffic serving the vineyard properties of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Les Baux-de-Provence, as well as corporate movements tied to Avignon's agri-food and pharmaceutical sectors.

Runway & Performance

The single asphalt runway measures 1,880 metres, orientated 17/35. At 124 ft field elevation and standard ISA conditions, the performance envelope comfortably accommodates midsize jets including the Challenger 350 and Praetor 500 without payload penalty. Super-midsize and smaller heavy aircraft such as the Falcon 2000LX are feasible with normal fuel loads on western European stage lengths. Ultra-long-range heavies — Global 7500, Gulfstream G650 — require performance calculation review; Lyon Saint-Exupéry or Marseille Provence remain the natural alternates for that category. No LVO procedures are published; IFR approaches are available on both runway directions.

Ground Handling

General aviation handling at AVN is provided through dedicated GA facilities on the north apron. Customs clearance is available on-site, though advance notification to the border police (PAF) is standard practice; walk-up clearance cannot be assumed on short notice, particularly outside business hours despite the H24 operational status of the airfield. Confirm customs availability directly when filing for arrivals before 07:00 or after 22:00 local. Fuelling is available on the apron with advance coordination. The airfield does not publish a named international FBO brand, but dedicated general aviation handling is in place, including crew briefing facilities and basic passenger VIP separation from the commercial terminal.

Regional Access

The airfield is located 8 km south-east of central Avignon, accessible via the D28 in under 15 minutes by car. Helicopter transfers to Luberon estates or Saint-Rémy-de-Provence can be pre-arranged through ground handlers. For guests targeting Gordes, Ménerbes, or Bonnieux, drive time from AVN is 45–60 minutes depending on route. Rail connections to Paris and Nice are available from Avignon TGV station, 10 minutes from the airfield, with sub-2h30 journey times to Paris Gare de Lyon. The A7 autoroute (Autoroute du Soleil) links the apron zone directly northward to Lyon and southward to Marseille, making road-based continuation practical for clients arriving with touring vehicles. France imposes standard Schengen customs formalities; third-country passports require PAF presentation on arrival.
