Jorge Newbery is one of the few major city airports in South America where the terminal sits inside the urban fabric rather than at its edge. The airfield occupies a narrow strip of reclaimed land along the Río de la Plata shoreline, placing arriving passengers within 15 minutes of Palermo, Recoleta, and the Puerto Madero financial district without any motorway transit. Runway & Performance

The single asphalt strip runs 2,100 metres at an elevation of 18 ft AMSL, which means density altitude is never a planning factor regardless of season. At ISA conditions, the runway comfortably supports light and midsize jets — Phenom 300, Citation XLS+, and Learjet 75 operate here routinely. Super-midsize types including the Challenger 350 and Praetor 600 can operate under standard load conditions, though operators should verify MTOW compliance on warm-weather days given the relatively short field length. Widebody and ultra-long-range heavy jets (Global 7500, Gulfstream G650) are not suited to AEP and route through EZE instead — though for regional South American hops and domestic segments, AEP is the operationally preferred point of entry into the capital.

Ground Handling

AEP holds H24 operational status with customs cleared on-site, making it viable for overnight arrivals and early-morning departures without pre-coordination of immigration services. The airport has historically hosted dedicated general aviation handling, with ramp access separated from commercial traffic. Dispatchers should confirm current slot availability and PPR requirements with the handling agent in advance, as the airport underwent a major renovation and partial reconfiguration between 2019 and 2022 that affected GA ramp layout. Ground transfers to Buenos Aires city centre depend heavily on traffic conditions on Av. Rafael Obligado and the Costanera Norte corridor. Off-peak arrival (pre-07:00 or post-21:00) puts Microcentro within 10–15 minutes by car; peak hours can extend this to 35–40 minutes despite the short linear distance. The Palermo hotel district and upscale residential areas of Barrio Norte and Las Cañitas are within 10 minutes under normal conditions. AEP serves as the principal airfield for domestic Argentine routes — connections to Córdoba, Mendoza, Rosario, and Bariloche depart from here rather than Ezeiza, which matters for multi-leg itineraries inside the country. Argentina imposes specific currency and import controls that can affect ground logistics; confirm with local handling on any special cargo or valuables routing.
