Kithira Island Airport sits at the southern tip of the Ionian archipelago, roughly 12 nautical miles off the Peloponnese coast and equidistant between Athens and Crete. Unlike the major Cycladic or Dodecanese fields, KIT handles negligible commercial traffic, making it one of the few Greek island airports where private charter arrivals dominate the movement log. The surrounding landscape — white-washed villages, Byzantine castles, and isolated cove beaches — draws a low-volume, high-spend clientele that deliberately avoids Mykonos and Santorini crowd dynamics.

Strategic Position

KIT sits approximately 220 km south of Athens Eleftherios Venizelos and 185 km northwest of Heraklion, positioning it as a viable tech stop on Athens-to-Crete or Athens-to-Rhodes routings. Ferry connections from Diakofti port reach Gythio on the Peloponnese mainland in approximately 2 hours, and a road transfer from the airport to Kithira Town (Chora) takes around 20 minutes. Agia Pelagia, the northern port village, is reachable in roughly 25 minutes by road.

Fleet Compatibility

The runway at KIT measures approximately 1,500 metres, which realistically limits operations to light jets — Phenom 300, Citation CJ3+, or equivalent — under standard ISA conditions. Midsize aircraft such as the Citation XLS+ or Learjet 75 should be approached with caution and require careful payload and fuel planning before dispatch. The field elevation of approximately 300 ft above sea level means density altitude is not a performance factor, but the runway length remains the binding constraint for most missions. Operators planning positioning flights from Athens or from Split should confirm MTOW limitations and fuel state with the handling agent prior to departure.

FBO & Ground Ops

KIT does not operate a dedicated FBO facility. Customs availability should be confirmed well in advance — the island's remote status means customs officers are not permanently stationed on-site and are typically arranged by prior notification (PARTIAL availability).
