The inside view
Van Nuys Airport (VNY/KVNY) is the natural first check for many private flights to Los Angeles. Official airport information describes two parallel runways, with an 8,000-foot main runway and an instrument landing system; the FAA characterises VNY as primarily a business- and general-aviation airport. Its position in the San Fernando Valley can work well for the Valley, Beverly Hills and parts of the west side, depending on traffic.
Los Angeles does not have one universally “closest” private-jet airport. Hollywood Burbank, Hawthorne, Long Beach, LAX and other approved fields can be operationally or geographically stronger for a particular itinerary. A map radius is not enough: freeway conditions, the passenger’s address, aircraft type, runway performance, parking, operating procedures and international formalities all influence the decision.
Van Nuys’ main runway supports a wide range of business aircraft, but published length alone does not approve a flight. The operator calculates performance using the actual aircraft, payload, temperature, wind, runway condition and fuel plan. Noise-abatement or operating procedures, crew duty, handler capacity and parking also need date-specific confirmation.
For international travel, confirm whether the proposed airport can accept the arrival and what advance notice or repositioning is required. Sometimes an airport that looks less convenient on the map produces the cleaner overall itinerary because it fits customs, aircraft performance or the onward schedule.
Short routes to Las Vegas, San Francisco, Phoenix or San Diego may suit light or midsize aircraft. A non-stop transcontinental mission to New York brings payload, winds and cabin requirements into sharper focus. Long-haul routes to London, Paris or Dubai normally require heavy or ultra-long-range aircraft and careful positioning.
The correct comparison shows more than a cabin category:
An indicative page price is useful for budgeting, but the operator-confirmed aircraft and inclusions determine the contract value.
Provide the exact neighbourhood or street-level destination, preferred local times, passenger and baggage count, international status, airport flexibility, production equipment or oversize luggage, pets and return plan. Flyius can then compare the flight and road itinerary together. Final confirmation should follow only after the operator validates aircraft, crew, airport access and commercial terms.
Operational sources checked: Van Nuys Airport and FAA airport information. Runway, procedures, customs, parking and availability must be reconfirmed for the travel date.

Safety and operators
Before you book, we check the actual operating company, its authorisation, its insurance and the proposed aircraft. The independent safety standards below come on top of those checks.
We check the operator's air operator certificate (AOC) and that the proposed aircraft is listed on it.
We obtain the insurance certificate covering the aircraft and its passengers on your flight.
We ask which independent audits the operator holds, such as ARGUS, Wyvern or IS-BAO, and check them with the auditor.
