About the Eclipse Aerospace Eclipse 550
The Eclipse 550 is the ultimate distillation of the very-light-jet idea — the smallest, lightest and most economical twin-engine jet in the sky. Its airframe pioneered friction stir welding in aviation, bonding aluminium without rivets to save weight and cost, and its two tiny Pratt & Whitney PW610F turbofans burn remarkably little fuel. The result is a genuine twinjet — with the redundancy two engines bring — at operating costs closer to a turboprop, and acquisition costs below any other jet. It cruises at 795 km/h over 1,842 km. It carries 4 passengers, with around 10 in European charter. The 550 is the jet that pushed the very-light concept to its extreme: minimal size, minimal cost, minimal fuel — but two engines and real jet capability.
Performance Excellence
Flown by one or two crew, the Eclipse 550 covers 1,842 km / 995 nm at up to 795 km/h (429 ktas) on two tiny Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofans — remarkably economical for a twinjet. Around 10 examples serve European charter at roughly €2,700 per hour. Its case is minimalism with redundancy: the smallest, lightest, lowest-cost twin-engine jet ever produced, with friction-stir-welded construction and turboprop-rivalling running costs, yet the safety margin of two engines — the very-light-jet concept taken to its logical extreme.
Cabin Comfort
The Eclipse 550's cabin is the most compact of any production jet — 2.90 m long, 1.14 m wide, 1.22 m tall — and there is no pretending otherwise: this is an intimate, four-seat space sized for short hops rather than lounging. The aircraft is most often owner-flown, and the cabin reflects that personal, no-frills purpose — a tightly-packaged interior where the value is in what the aircraft does, not how much room it offers. Four people travel close together, with the quiet of the small twin turbofans and large windows that keep the small space from feeling closed-in. It is a cabin that makes sense only in the context of the whole aircraft: the smallest, cheapest way to fly a real twin-engine jet, with comfort sized to match the mission.
High-speed WiFi keeps you connected throughout your flight, allowing you to work or stay in touch. A full galley enables fresh catering service during your journey. A private lavatory ensures comfort on longer flights.
