By 1995 IAI had a well-liked midsize in the Astra, and the SPX sharpened it where it counted. New Honeywell TFE731-40 engines brought more thrust and better specific fuel consumption, and winglets cleaned up the wingtips — together lifting climb performance, hot-and-high capability and the airframe's manners at demanding airports. This was the version polished enough that when Gulfstream acquired the programme, the SPX became the basis of the G100.
