About the Westwind Westwind Astra 1125

Israel Aerospace Industries had a capable midsize jet in the Westwind, but it carried a straight wing rooted in 1960s aerodynamics. For the Astra 1125 of 1988, IAI kept the proven fuselage and designed an entirely new swept, transonic wing beneath it, mounted low rather than through the cabin. The aerodynamic transformation was profound: cruise speed rose, efficiency improved, and range reached 5,000 km — long legs for a midsize, and the most of any aircraft in the Astra line. It carries 8 passengers (up to 9) at 980 km/h. Around 8 serve European charter. The 1125 is the airframe where the Westwind became the Astra — and where Israeli engineering produced a genuinely fast, long-range midsize from a careful redesign.

Performance Excellence

Two crew operate the Astra 1125 across 5,000 km / 2,700 nm at up to 980 km/h (529 ktas) on Honeywell TFE731 turbofans — the longest range of the Astra family, the gift of the new swept wing. Around 8 examples serve European charter at roughly €5,000 per hour. Its case is the redesign: a proven IAI fuselage given a modern transonic wing that lifted speed, efficiency and range together, making the 1125 the long-distance member of a midsize line better known for value than reach.

Cabin Comfort

The Astra 1125's cabin benefited directly from the new wing's geometry: because the swept wing mounts low and clear of the fuselage, the cabin — 5.03 m long, 1.52 m wide, 1.75 m tall — has a flat floor uninterrupted by a wing carry-through box, and 1.75 m of headroom that lets most passengers stand. Eight seats sit in a club-four and pair arrangement, with the long range meaning the cabin is built for genuine multi-hour sectors rather than short hops. The stand-up height was rare in a 1980s midsize and remains the cabin's defining comfort, the dividend of mounting the new wing where it didn't intrude. It is a Westwind cabin freed by a cleaner airframe beneath it.

High-speed WiFi keeps you connected throughout your flight, allowing you to work or stay in touch. A full galley enables fresh catering service during your journey. A private lavatory ensures comfort on longer flights.
