About the Westwind Westwind II
Few business jets have changed hands — and countries — as often as the Westwind II. It began as Rockwell's Jet Commander in the United States, was sold to Israel Aircraft Industries when antitrust rules forced Rockwell to choose between two jet programmes, and was reborn near Tel Aviv as the Commodore, then the Westwind, then the refined Westwind II of the late 1970s. Its signature never changed: large tip tanks slung on the wingtips, carrying the fuel that lets a midsize jet reach 2,963 km. It seats 8 (up to 9) at 882 km/h — an American design, Israeli-built, instantly known by its silhouette.
Performance Excellence
Two crew fly the Westwind II over 2,963 km / 1,600 nm at up to 882 km/h (476 ktas), the wingtip tanks doing the work that gives a 1970s midsize genuine cross-continental reach. A handful — around 5 — remain in European charter at roughly €4,500 per hour. It is a rare aircraft now, but a historically rich one: the Jet Commander bloodline that gave IAI its foothold in business aviation and seeded the Astra family that followed.
Cabin Comfort
The Westwind II's cabin reflects its straight-talking purpose: 1.72 m tall, 1.52 m wide and 5.0 m long, sized for eight passengers in a practical club-and-divan layout rather than for showroom drama. The tip-tank wing keeps the fuel out on the wingtips instead of under the floor, which frees a flat, usable cabin and a generous baggage area for the class. It is a working cabin from an era when a midsize jet was bought to cross borders reliably, not to impress — comfortable, durable, and honest about what it is.
High-speed WiFi keeps you connected throughout your flight, allowing you to work or stay in touch. A full galley enables fresh catering service during your journey. A private lavatory ensures comfort on longer flights.
