By 2000 the straight-wing Citation had been evolving in continuous production for nearly three decades, and the Encore was its final, most refined chapter. Cessna re-engined it with FADEC-controlled Pratt & Whitney PW535A turbofans for more thrust and better hot-and-high performance, fitted trailing-link landing gear for the cushioned touchdowns the family became known for, and stretched useful range to 2,963 km. The result carries 6 passengers (7 at most) at 845 km/h to a 45,000 ft ceiling — never the fastest light jet, but arguably the most thoroughly sorted one Cessna ever built on that wing.
