About the Bombardier Challenger 601-3A

By 1987 the Challenger 601 had proved the airframe; the -3A modernised the cockpit. Bombardier fitted the Collins EFIS-86 electronic flight instrument system — CRT primary displays in place of the original analogue panel — which cut crew workload, sharpened situational awareness and brought the Challenger into the glass-cockpit era its rivals were entering. The aerodynamics were refined alongside, lifting range to 4,131 km at 978 km/h. It carries 12 passengers (up to 14), and with around 20 in European service it is the most numerous of the early Challengers on the continent. The -3A is the variant that made the 601 a modern flight-deck aircraft without touching the cabin that already worked.

Performance Excellence

Two crew operate the -3A across 4,131 km / 2,230 nm at up to 978 km/h (528 ktas), the EFIS flight deck doing the navigational heavy lifting. Around 20 examples serve European charter at roughly €8,000 per hour — the largest early-Challenger fleet in the region. Its appeal is balance: the proven wide cabin, a genuinely modern cockpit, and an extra few hundred kilometres of range over the base 601, all at a price well below the later 604.

Cabin Comfort

The -3A inherits the defining Challenger cross-section — 8.66 m long, 2.49 m wide, 1.85 m tall — but where the story here lives is in the quieter, later-build refinement. By the -3A's production years Bombardier had matured the cabin's acoustic treatment and finish; passengers notice it most at cruise, where the wide tube is appreciably hushed. Twelve seats run forward club to aft conference, and the flat floor down the centreline lets you cross the cabin without stooping. It is the same generous width that made the 601 famous, presented with a few more years of polish — and overhead, a flight deck the crew can fly with markedly less effort, which on a long charter day shows in a smoother flight.

High-speed WiFi keeps you connected throughout your flight, allowing you to work or stay in touch. A full galley enables fresh catering service during your journey. A private lavatory ensures comfort on longer flights.
